After my sentence ended I was unsure of how I was going to get back to work and earning a living. During my sentence I took many courses with a view that those new skills I gained would help me find work but then one day I saw a leaflet for Start-Up and wrote a letter detailing what I would like to do. After I was released I was invited to the First Entrepreneur day at HMP Brixton.
After a while I was put in contact with a business adviser who gave me help in compiling my business plan and we presented it to Start-Up who then funded my business. What it means is that I am now in charge of my own future. My business is almost at the end of it's first year as I write this and amongst my clients I have Start-Up.
I see the work that Start-Up has done for me as pivotal to helping me put my ideas into action. I now have aims and objectives in my life and Start-Up have helped me and I know if you are an ex-offender they can help you too. Having to declare convictions to potential employees often means that we, as ex-offenders, are not short listed for most vacancies. But if like me you have a skill that can give you the opportunity of being self employed then Start-Up can help you. And it's all free.
If you are unsure I would just say give them a call.
Good luck for the future.
